According to data from the U.S. Geological Survey, global ilmenite supply in 2013 totaled 6.79 million tons, of which Vietnam accounted for 500,000 tons, representing 7%. In 2013, China imported 40% of its titanium ore, with Vietnam accounting for 26% of those imports. Given Vietnam’s higher-grade titanium ore, it can be used to produce sponge titanium.
